The Shii Hadith Project is an initiative to bring together scholars working on Shii hadith from a variety of different perspectives and intellectual traditions to present research and exchange ideas.
The aim of the project is to foster international dialogue between scholars and to encourage wide-ranging discussions on subjects including, but not limited to the following:
- technical aspects of the science of hadith
- topical issues based in a study of hadith
- the use of hadith as sources for intellectual and social history
- key hadith scholars and their works
These discussions will not be limited to any one denomination or orientation within Shiism, but rather seek to explore connections and divergences within the broader corpus of hadith, and the different traditions of interpretation.
The project will be based on a number of online seminars in which scholars present research and receive feedback, read and translate texts, as well as having more open-ended discussions on topics of interest. It is hoped that rather than merely having one-off, individual discussions, these workshops will help to create ongoing discussions and a developing community.
These workshops aim to attract studies concerning Shii hadith in English, Arabic, Persian and other European languages. This project is sponsored by Law, Authority and Learning in Imami Shi’ite Islam (LAWALISI) ERC: 695245.
